    The foundations of capitalist economy

Post  ElIndio on Sun May 04, 2008 11:49 am

Here is a free e-book presenting Marx's economics theories, it is quite accessible and could be a good introduction.

However, it only presents Marx's theories, leaving out Luxemburg's. For an introduction to her ideas, you can read the book from a member of Workers' democracy network : Labor's global battle.

We will discuss this book in this site soon.

I look forward to the discussion since when the original French edition of this book came out in 1995 I had an exchange of correspondence with Jacques Gouverneur on his version of the labour theory of value which is not the same as that put forward by Marx. He argues that the value of a commodity is the (arithmetic) average of all the actual labour time spent by all those involved in producing the quantities of it are sold. My point was that this is not the same as what Marx meant by "socially necessary" labour time. In his reply he wrote "I willingly recognise that my version of the labour theory of value is not 'orthodox'". I can post the exchange of letters here if people are interested. Unfortunately, his reply is in French.
